The year is fast drawing to a close and every club in Hermanus is advertising their end of year function. We do hope that you will be able to attend ours on Thursday 5th December at 18:00 at Fernkloof!
As usual it will be a BYO braai (or if you prefer, you can bring a cold supper) and our annual ‘favourite photograph’ competition.
This is an opportunity to show off your favourite bird photo of the year, which will be judged by your fellow birders. It is not a serious photographic competition, but rather one judged on the ‘oh wow’ or ‘ag shame’ factor!
See the latest issue of The Oystercatcher for details.
Our morning outing is on Thursday 7th when we will have another go at the previously abandoned drive along the Hawston View road. This road turns off the R43 direction Villiersdorp and joins up with the van der Stel’s Pass road. The outing will be led by Lee Burman and we meet at the Onrus Trading Post at 08:00 to consolidate transport. Don’t forget to pack your mid-morning snack. At the last committee meeting it was decided to increase the transport contribution to R2 per kilometre, divided amongst the occupants of the car. (e.g. 100km x R2 = R200 ÷ 4 = R50 pp) If passengers forget to offer payment, drivers should not be shy to ask!
Our ‘outings man’, Craig, has been very busy and having just returned from Die Hel & Wilderness another group is heading to De Hoop Nature Reserve from 12 to 14 November, with a further 25 members lined up to enjoy the park in February 2014. Thanks Craig!
Our evening meeting is on Wednesday 20th at 19:00 when John & Irene Saunders will share the birds of the Scilly Isles with us, Paul & Suzanne de Villiers will give us a glimpse into their African Safari and Sue Rossington will tell us about some of her experiences with the monitoring programme of Bonelli’s Eagles in France. Visitors are welcome to join us at no charge.
