Beautiful displays of bird-flight

A beautiful display of low-flying and tip-toed landing on the water surface by Greater Flamingos (Grootflaminke) greeted a rather compact but spirited group of Club birders at Strandfontein on Thursday 2 October.

Two more displays awaited the group at the nearby Rondevlei Nature Reserve – first a fly-past by at least 30 Glossy Ibises (Glansibisse), and then some playful courting by a pair of Lesser Swamp Warblers (Kaapse Rietsangers).

The group, led by Margie Ogston and Lee Burman on the monthly morning outing, identified a total of 71 species at the two venues.
