2020 was a bad year for the club. Our membership dropped by around 100 members, probably due to a combination of our inability to hold meetings and participate in activities, as well as a general fear of possible Covid infection. We are naturally concerned about all of these factors, but feel that we have our hands tied regarding meetings and away trips. We will, therefore, be continuing with monthly walks, and we also encourage members to look at the Birdlife South Africa presentations that are available on UTube. They are generally very good and the speakers come from a wide background and have very interesting subjects. Whilst not exactly club meetings, these will keep your interest up and keep you aware of what is happening in the birding world.
Any members who may have dropped off the Radar are encouraged to join up again. Please pay your subs, which are unchanged from last year (at R150 for a single and R250 for a partnership) if not already paid.
Finally, our first walk of the year will probably take place on Thursday 8 April (so as not to coincide with Easter) when we will meet at the Onrus Trading Post at 7:30am prior to visiting the Swartrivier Road and, hopefully, Gabrielskloof Farm. A further notice will be published to confirm this.
We are still looking for a committee member to assume the role of Secretary, Monika having resigned. If you can help in this regard, please contact John Saunders, who will give you a very warm welcome!!
In the meantime, it seems we will have to wait for the vaccine roll-out before we can resume any sort of normality.
