January

Wednesday 18: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 19:00. Speaker Faansie Peacock, birder, author and illustrator, on “The weird and wondrous world of waders”.

Tuesday 31: First day of three short afternoon birding cruises on the Klein River at Stanford on board the River Rat.

February

Wednesday 1: Start of first month of 2017 Hermanus Bird Club Challenge.

Thursday 2: Monthly walk along the Onrus Peninsula coast and at the Onrus River mouth.

Wednesday 15: Outing to De Hoop until Friday 17. Includes late afternoon birding cruises. (Fully booked)

Wednesday 22: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 19:00. Short presentation, followed by Annual General Meeting and election of new Committee.

March

Wednesday 1: Start of second month of 2017 Hermanus Bird Club Challenge.

Thursday 2: Monthly walk in Rooi Els and Harold Porter Botanical Garden. Meet at Onrus Trading Post.

Wednesday 15: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 19:00. Speaker Dale Wright, who focuses on the Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas (IBAs) Programme of BirdLife South Africa.

April

Saturday 1: Start of third month of 2017 Hermanus Bird Club Challenge.

Thursday 6: Monthly morning outing to Strandfontein water purification dams, including Rondevlei Bird Sanctuary. Meet at Onrus Trading Post.

Wednesday 19: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 18:00. Special General Meeting followed by Speaker Giselle Murison, Project Manager for the Western Cape Estuaries Conservation Project of BirdLife South Africa.

May

Monday 1: Start of fourth month of 2017 Hermanus Bird Club Challenge.

Thursday 4: Monthly walk in Stanford, including Appel se Dam. Meet at Fernkloof Nature Reserve parking opposite the Hall.

Wednesday 17: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 18:00. Speaker Prof Peter Ryan, Director of the Percy Fitzpatrick Institute of the University of Cape Town.

June

Thursday 1: Start of fifth month of 2017 Hermanus Bird Club Challenge.

Thursday 1: Monthly walk – Beaumont Family Wine Estate in Botrivier. Meet at Onrus Trading Post at 07h55.

Wednesday 21: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 18:00. Speaker Keir Lynch, Chairman of the Overberg Crane Group.

July

Saturday 1: Start of sixth and final month of 2017 Hermanus Bird Club Challenge.

Thursday 6: Monthly walk – Grootbos Private Nature Reserve. Meet at Fernkloof Nature Reserve parking opposite the Hall.

Wednesday 19: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 18:00. Speaker Mike Ford on his experiences in Ethiopia.

August

Thursday 3: Monthly walk – Fernkloof Nature Reserve. Meet at parking opposite Fernkloof Hall at 8:am  The Bowmans will lead this walk.

Wednesday 16: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 18:00. Quiz Evening with soup and wine.

September

Thursday 7: Monthly walk – Ian and Jessie Walton’s farm in Elgin Valley. Meet at Onrus Trading Post.

Wednesday 20: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 19:00. Speaker John Saunders.

October

Thursday 5: Monthly walk – drive along Swart River Road. Meet at Onrus Trading Post.

Wednesday 18: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 19:00. Members’ Fun Evening and Photographic Competition.

November

Thursday 2: Monthly walk – De Mond Nature Reserve between Arniston and Struisbaai, at the mouth of the Heuningnes River. Meet at Fernkloof Nature Reserve parking opposite the Hall.

Wednesday 15: Monthly meeting at Fernkloof Hall, 19:00. Speaker to be confirmed.

December

Thursday 7: Monthly walk – Fernkloof Nature Reserve. Meet at parking opposite Fernkloof Hall.

Wednesday 13: Christmas Party. Details to be confirmed.
